Junior and Senior Consultant Positions

Call for applications

EpiMundi is seeking two veterinary epidemiologists to join our team in Lyon. The openings are for one Junior Consultant and one Senior Consultant.

The positions are initially fixed term contracts (CDD) with the option of transitioning to permanent positions (CDI).

We work around the globe on enormously varied projects, seeking to improve the health and well-being of humans, terrestrial and aquatic animals, and plants, using applied epidemiology combined with complementary disciplines.

Based on our current projects, we are seeking candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise and experience:

  • epidemiological modelling and quantitative analysis using R
  • management and integration of multiple complex health data sources using R and SQL
  • analysis, visualisation and interpretation of animal health data including (but not restricted to) avian influenza surveillance and AMR data
  • development of decision support tools
  • disease surveillance (early detection surveillance approaches, demonstration of freedom)
  • risk analysis
  • epidemiological study design, optimisation of surveillance design

The successful candidates will be working as part of team of epidemiologists based in Lyon.

EpiMundi’s organisational hierarchy comprises Junior Consultant, Consultant, Senior Consultant and an Executive Consultant. There is a clear career pathway for early career epidemiologists and a work environment that provides supported and mentored development for all staff.

The Junior Consultant will work under the guidance of senior staff, contributing to projects while developing their skills in a mentored environment.

The Senior Consultant position requires more advanced skills and attributes and requires work at a higher level in terms of both capacity and responsibility. A Senior Consultant is also expected to provide scientific and team leadership, support Consultant teams, and have a more active role in working with clients, developing new projects, and bringing in new work.

Strong candidates that do not fully meet the requirements of a Senior Consultant may be offered a position as a Consultant with a view to promotion to Senior Consultant after gaining the necessary skills and experience.

Position Descriptions

This role is designed for an early-career professional to grow their skills in a supported environment. The Junior Consultant will work under the direction of a supervisor on a variety of projects.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Operational/functional

  • Undertake tasks of information analysis, data management, and epidemiological analysis related to projects, under supervision
  • Contribute to providing quality and timely expert service to clients.
  • Conduct literature reviews and ongoing research.
  • Contribute to the production of high-quality reports at key stages of the project.
  • Actively collaborate with and support other consultants and colleagues.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with project stakeholders and users.

Project management

  • Support project management by tracking time, expenses and achievement of milestones
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals, including cost information and budget preparation.
  • Contribute to project planning and process development.

General responsibilities

  • Provide the necessary inputs to existing administrative systems for project management, human resource management, scientific knowledge management.
  • Establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Actively seek out opportunities for linkages and projects that benefit the company.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology (e.g., Master’s or higher).
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in epidemiology.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English (at least CEFR-level B2 for speaking).
  • Experience contributing to or authoring scientific publications.
  • Proficiency with standard office systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and teleconferencing tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly gain competency with new software systems.
  • Well-developed skills in statistical software packages. Skills in data management, analysis and visualisation in R are essential.
  • Experience working autonomously and as part of a small team.

Desirable

  • A first degree in veterinary science or another relevant clinical discipline.
  • You will be expected to already have, or to be interested and able to develop, competencies in some of the following advanced software areas :
    • GIS and spatial analysis (e.g. QGIS or R)
    • Advanced use of a variety of R packages for data management, analysis and visualisation
    • Data management tools (including R, SQL and database such as PostgreSQL)
    • Code versioning (Git)
    • Cloud computing (AWS)
  • Ability to work in one or more languages other than English.

Senior consultant

This role is for an experienced professional capable of scientific leadership and greater autonomy. A Senior Consultant is expected to provide team leadership, mentor junior staff, and play an active role in business development through existing networks and experience.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Operational/functional

  • Lead and manage project activities
  • Lead interactions with project stakeholders, clients, and users during all project phases.
  • Oversee and perform complex information analysis, data management, and epidemiological analysis.
  • Provide high-quality and timely expert service to clients, fostering long-term professional relationships.
  • Lead the production of high-quality reports and other project deliverables.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide scientific leadership within project teams.
  • Actively collaborate with and support colleagues across the company.

Project management

  • Apply advanced skills in recognised project management methodologies to oversee and analyse projects. EpiMundi uses PRINCE2 project management approaches – training in this or PMP would be an advantage
  • Lead the development of project proposals, including budget preparation, in response to calls for tenders or other identified opportunities
  • Manage and monitor project budgets, deliverables and resources, communicating their evolution throughout the project lifecycle.

General responsibilities
